Contacts
Managing your research participants — contact lists, CSV import, attributes, and distribution.
Contact Management Overview
Contacts are the people you can invite to take surveys. Cashew’s contact management lets you import, organize, and use your participant lists for distribution. Whether you’re surveying customers, panel members, or event attendees, contacts are the foundation for reaching your audience.
Importing Contacts via CSV
You can bring contacts into Cashew by uploading a CSV file. The import process typically supports:
- Email addresses — Required for email-based distribution
- Custom attributes — Demographics, segments, or any columns you define
- Mapping — Match your CSV columns to Cashew’s contact fields and attributes
After import, contacts are available for use in studies. You can re-import to update lists or add new contacts.
Creating Contact Lists
Contact lists let you group contacts for organization and targeting. You can:
- Create lists manually (e.g., “Q1 Customer Survey”, “Beta Testers”)
- Build lists from imported contacts using filters or attributes
- Use the same contact in multiple lists
Lists make it easy to select the right audience when setting up a study’s distribution.
Custom Attributes
Contacts can have custom attributes — fields you define beyond the basics (e.g., industry, company size, purchase date). Attributes help you:
- Segment — Target specific groups (e.g., “High-value customers”)
- Filter — Exclude or include contacts based on criteria
- Cross-tabulate — Analyze results by attribute in reporting
You define attribute names and optionally set allowed values for consistency.
Using Contacts for Survey Distribution
When you configure distribution for a study, you can select a contact list as the audience. Cashew sends survey invitations (e.g., via email) to contacts on that list. You can combine contact-based distribution with Cashew’s panel or use contacts alone for closed populations.
Managing Respondent Panels
If you maintain your own respondent panel (e.g., customers, community members), contact management supports that workflow. You import and update panel members, assign attributes for targeting, and use lists to invite specific segments to studies. Over time, you can track participation and manage opt-outs to keep your panel healthy and compliant.
